The biggest negatives I would say that keep it from being 5 stars are the parking lot and visibility of the Zoo. It is very difficult to find with no signage from the main road. The parking lot is just gravel. In a rainstorm has large potholes and is very messy. This is easy to forgive once you get inside and meet the friendly staff and see the animals.
A bit hard to see from the road. Gravel parking lot. Very friendly staff. Love the animals and being able to feed some of them. The exhibits are all relatively clean. I was not a fan of having to pay to see and have a personal experience with the sloth, kangaroo, reptiles and anteaters. I think that when you pay to enter a zoo you should be able to see the animals, maybe just pay for the personal experience.
First off I'm not sure about people leaving 1 star ratings. They must have no perspective.
This past weekend I visited Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. I was really impressed and had a great experience. The two lions they had started to roar when we were visiting, it was amazing. Also we watched on of the bird shows. I had low expectations walking into the zoo but it was very cool. The only downside was I did not see a gorilla. But they had a lot more monkeys. Also the zoo had a lot of animal encounter habitats.
In summary, this is definitely a great place to take the kids. They will not forget the experience!
With that being said, you have to understand that I would not call this a "Zoo" as most people know of them from larger cities. I would call it a Wildlife Sanctuary. We have several where I am from. Most of them house 15-50 animal species. Which a lot less than your average "Zoo". This place though, is very large for a Sanctuary. They have a large variety of animals. The visibility of all the animals is great, with exception of the full grown alligator because he hides in the water a lot. Kids love it here because they do have farm animals as well that they can feed. The prices are not expensive at all.
Fun little zoo! Easy access and plenty of parking make for a stress free little adventure. Close to the beach, so if you're cooped up in a condo and to sunburnt to get out on the beach, this is a perfect short getaway. Take time to enjoy the animal encounters. The lemurs are especially sweet and fun! Cool souvenirs too, we ♥ our sloth coffee mug!
This is one if the best zoos I have ever been at. Though it seems small, there are a variety of animals, many different encounter options that are well worth the money and the staff is friendly, helpful and informative. It is always a pleasure to go and provided a fun experience for the whole family
On top of everything above, you can pay extra to hold or encounter different animals. We had a fantastic experience with my daughter. We paid to enter the lemur exhibit and cuddle with several lemurs. We'll worth the $10 a person in my opinion.
